Audio Transcription; Get a Job Transcribing
It's the coming thing in companies these days. They record their meetings, conferences, brain storming sessions, etc., then they ship them off to a transcription service to be transcribed by a typist. There's quite a few jobs available performing audio transcription if you know how to do it.

So how exactly does one do audio transcription? It's actually a fairly easy process once you get used to it. Essentially, you listen through a headset to the recording. You use a footpedal to pause, rewind and play the recording, allowing you to concentrate on typing without having to use your hands to manage the recorder.

In order to get a job performing audio transcription, you first need to have the proper equipment at home. Most audio transcription these days is done via computer recording rather than tapes, so you'll need a computer for starters. Next you'll need a foot pedal that plugs into the USB port on your computer. You'll need to have the proper software to play the recordings with your foot pedal, and of course you'll need an internet connection to receive the recordings.

In addition to having the proper equipment, audio transcription also requires the proper skill. Slow typists will never make it in the audio transcription field. If you aren't a significantly fast typist, you just won't get hired. You should be able to type at a minimum of seventy words per minute, and many transcription firms want speeds in the range of ninety words per minute. If you need to increase your typing skills, you can find many websites that offer typing instruction and practice to increase your speed.

Besides typing speed, transcriptionists need to have good spelling and grammar skills and be excellent proofreaders, since you'll need to proofread your audio transcriptions before submitting them. Those who have a good understanding of specific industry terminology, such as medical or engineering terms, are usually in especially high demand to perform audio transcription, so spending time studying industry vocabulary is well worth it.

Performing audio transcription can be a great career for those who prefer to work from home. You can be your own boss and set your own hours. All you need is to have the right equipment and the right skills, and you can get work performing audio transcription today.
